RPAS in Canada refers to a Remote Piloted Aircraft System also know as a Drone or UAV

 

Volterra Drone Solutions offers a comprehensive Advanced Pilot Ground School that has been accepted by Transport Canada. We can be found on the TP 15263 Self-Declared RPAS Training Providers list by clicking here. This course covers all the necessary topics required to pass the Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot written exam. Our training not only includes in class instruction we also provide practical flight training exercises and radiotelephony practical exercises. The price of the course also includes your first attempt at the Advanced Flight Review and ROC-A assessment.

This course is designed for both experienced and novice drone pilots who are looking to increase their knowledge and skills in the field of RPAS operations. Our course not only meets the Transport Canada minimum requirements under TP 15263 but exceeds them. It goes beyond basic flying techniques and dives into advanced operational procedures, safety protocols, regulations, and best practices.

RPAS ADVANCED PILOT GROUND SCHOOL - (40 hour, In person training course)

NOTE: Volterra Drone Solutions is based in the Edmonton Capital Region and offers Training Canada Wide. Travel and lodging fees may apply if training is requested outside of 175 km radius from Edmonton. This course is currently only offered in English.

TRAINING COURSE DETAILS

Our course provides a total of 40 hours of in class and practical instruction lead by experienced drone pilots with years of experience in the industry.

Upon successful completion of this course, pilots will have the necessary knowledge to operate a RPAS in advanced complex airspace and have a strong understanding of their responsibilities as an RPAS operator. This course is a crucial step in becoming a professional and responsible drone pilot and will assist you in passing the Advanced Transport Canada written exam.

Topics that are covered in this course include:

  • Module 1: Air Law

  • Module 2: RPAS Airframes, Power Plants, Propulsion & Systems  

  • Module 3: Theory Of Flight 

  • Module 4: Meteorology  

  • Module 5: Navigation

  • Module 6: Radiotelephony

  • Module 7: Human Factors

  • Module 8: Flight Operations 

  • Module 9: Practical Field Training 

 

Course Duration: 28 hrs Classroom Training Time and 12 hours of Practical Field Training Time

 

Total: 40 hours

Upon successful completion of the drone course, you will receive a Volterra ground school certificate for covering the above knowledge requirements (This is not the official Transport Canada pilot certificate, only Transport Canada has jurisdiction to issue permits.)

 

This course also fulfills the CAR's 901.56 and 901.65 Recency Requirements for small remotely piloted aircraft (VLOS) — basic and advanced operations that covers the subjects set out in section 921.04 of Standard 921.
